Do we need to define our lives by material things? After nearly five years, I would like to share my thoughts on this lifestyle. This lifestyle is more than just a choice. It’s a re-examination and a re-discovery of what’s really important in life.
We had no idea four years ago how much our lives would be changed by moving from a 3,150 square foot suburban mansion to 1,400 square feet cabin. After 4.5 years, we can now say that downsizing was one of the best things we ever did.
In today’s society, we are often bound to material things without realizing it. Downsizing allows us to free ourselves from the shackles that material possessions have on us and regain our initiative in life. We no longer have to worry about the piled-up things, nor do we need to spend time and effort cleaning and maintaining them. We have more time for our family, to pursue our hobbies and interests, and to enjoy the beauty of the natural world.

Downsizing doesn’t mean you have to give up all material pleasures. It requires clever storage and space-saving techniques. We have learned to use space efficiently to meet our daily needs, and to solve storage issues in innovative ways. In our cottage, for example, each room has been carefully designed to maximize its function. We added more wardrobes to our cottage so that each item had its own place. We no longer have to worry about not having enough space to store our items or about finding them.
But Downsizing is not without its challenges. We live in an extremely materialistic society. There are many different types of houses and lifestyles. We can’t resist comparing our cottage to those mansions. This comparison did not cause us to feel regret or dissatisfaction, but rather made us more determined about our choices. We realized that the journey of life is not about material success, but rather happiness and satisfaction. We learned to value our choices and treasure the things that really matter.

After nearly five years, we have reached an important conclusion. Downsizing is more than a lifestyle. It’s a way of life. It teaches us how to create endless possibilities with limited resources and find inner peace amidst the ocean of materialism. It helps us to understand that happiness is not found in material possessions, but in our love of life and our family.
Downsizing does not mean giving up space. It means making room for the things that are really important. It is a new definition of life, and a pursuit for freedom. Downsizing offers a new way of living in a world of material temptations. It allows us to be free of the shackles that material things impose on us and regain our essence of life.
